Palm Desert, Riverside County
Palm Desert was laid out after World War II by Cliff Henderson and his brothers and incorporated in 1973. El Paseo, its mile-long street of shops and galleries, is the main shopping district of the Coachella Valley, and the McCallum Theatre has presented concerts and touring shows since 1988. Highway 74, the Palms to Pines route, climbs from the south side of town into the mountains.
